Project Description

Investors are needed to finance the advancement of research in the seafood processing industry sector and thus contribute to the persistence of fishery products through intelligent fishing and eco-innovative products.

The SEAFOOD -AGE project, «Smart and eco-innovative fishing processes and products for healthy ageing”, is currently funded by the Atlantic Area Programme. The objective is to create intelligent and eco-innovative processes and products for an ageing population, incorporating the principles of the circular economy in the Atlantic area seafood chain.

The project is led from the Institute of Marine Research of the CSIC, being CETMAR one of the partners, with responsibility on the actions of capitalization of results.

Description of the Area of Activity / Technology

The main areas of activity of the project are:

  • Designing ready-to-eat, sustainable, healthy, high-quality seafood products that meet the needs of the elderly and reduce food loss.
    Ecological packaging solutions based on marine biomass and discards from the fish processing industry, following the principles of the circular economy.

  • Design of smart predictive labels to help retailers reduce waste while optimizing quality and safety, and facilitating consumer decisions.

  • Developing skills for innovation and accelerating the pace of integration of the principles of the circular economy into the seafood sector.
