Gradiant. Smart aquaculture

Gradiant

Project Description

Aquaculture is the fastest growing food sector. Extensive aquaculture crops collect measurements of the variables that can affect the results of sowing, but in general they do not have a mathematical model that relates these variables to the biomass they obtain from the crop, so decision-making is based on the intuition and experience of professionals and not on data.

This project is looking for companies that with their funding help to solve the lack of scientific basis in this decision making, producing an optimal crop yield and providing ICT support to the implementation and updating of mathematical models. The modules that make up this solution will initially be: i) fattening prediction, ii) survival analysis, iii) estimation of optimal crop size. The joint use of the information extracted from the different modules will make it possible to achieve optimum efficiency in the cultivation of the species.

The system provides the following benefits:

  • Crop optimization: our system will allow the maximum optimization of the cultivation of a species, resulting in a much higher profitability than what was obtained until now.
  • Cost reduction: the algorithms implemented in our system lead to a reduction in costs. For example, selecting the variables that influence the growth of the species or the mortality allows time to be reduced in data collection and analysis, thus optimizing costs. Also, if we are able to determine the optimal crop size, we will reduce the fattening phase and thus its associated costs.
  • Intelligence: it is able to provide information in an intelligent way due to the feedback of the algorithms in a dynamic way. As environmental or production conditions change, the system automatically adapts.
  • Comprehensive solution: the different functionalities are integrated into a single system that facilitates the management of the stored data, the mathematical models generated and the results of the prediction, estimation and analysis work, thus improving efficiency and cost.
  • Alerts or recommendations: the generation of real-time alerts when risk situations occur, or even when the system predicts that some undesirable situation may occur in the future. These alerts are a measure that helps to reduce or avoid costs.
Extendable to other species: our idea is to design and build a system that is as automatic as possible. This will allow, with minimum adjustments, to be able to apply it in the management of a great variety of crop species.
