The University of Vigo (UVigo) is a public institution, internationally oriented and committed to the quality of teaching and research to contribute to the creation and transfer of knowledge. Its three campuses, Ourense, Pontevedra and Vigo, currently offer degrees in the scientific, humanistic, technological and legal-social fields, distributed among almost thirty centers, where research groups also carry out their activity. A network of its own centers completes the map of research infrastructures at the University of Vigo.
UVigo has in biotechnology and related sectors one of its priority areas of knowledge. In addition to carrying out bio research of application in the field of health, the University of Vigo is committed to the sea, marine research and its biotechnological application through the Campus of International Excellence – Campus do Mar, an initiative that it leads and in which other universities in Galicia and Portugal participate. A wide network of its own research and support centers completes the map of infrastructures of the University of Vigo.
Since its creation in 1990, it has accumulated a wide experience in R&D in the field of biotechnology, with more than 440 researchers distributed in 35 groups, which have obtained funding in competitive calls both at national and international level. In addition, it has a portfolio of more than 60 patents in different areas of the biotechnology sector and 5 biotechnology companies have also been created.

The mission of the R&D Office of UVIGO, in collaboration with the transfer structures of the different centers, is to carry out tasks of dynamisation and transfer of R&D&I capacities and results to the social-economic environment for teaching and research staff (PDI), companies and other external entities.
