The “New Materials” research group of the University of Vigo, after more than thirty years of research, is configured as a large, stable and active work team in the field of New Materials and Surface Science and Technology. It is a multidisciplinary group that has been recognized by the Xunta de Galicia as a “Group of Excellence”.

In the last decade, they have dedicated their efforts to lines of research aimed at the development of biomaterials, chiral optical materials and the processing of materials using laser techniques, being applied in various fields such as: medicine, microelectronics, photovoltaics, artistic heritage, etc.

Additionally, the group has a transversal line of work in the Dissemination of Research and Science in order to promote a scientific culture in society.

  • BLUEBIOLAB, cross-border marine biotechnology laboratory. Interreg VA Spain-Portugal Program (Poctep) 2014-2020
  • BLUEHUMAN: Blue biotechnology as a path for innovation in human health aiming at smart growth in the Atlantic area. European Union, Interreg Atlantic Area Program (EAPA_151/2016)
  • Materials engineering for new microelectronic and photonic devices: Laser Processing to activate boron in germanium alloys with tin (LASERACTIV)
  • New endovascular prosthesis: Stent heatable by electromagnetic induction
