Axencia de Coñecemento en Saúde (ACIS)

Description

ACIS is a Galician public entity created with the vocation of becoming the nucleating element of the ecosystem of knowledge and innovation in health in Galicia. The advance of knowledge is increasingly fast, so it is essential to have the necessary resources to manage it autonomously, agile and efficient, results-oriented and with a vision capable of combining immediate needs with medium and long term planning. ACIS is the instrument at the service of the Galician Public Health System so that knowledge circulates optimally from its origin to its transfer to society. To achieve this, it integrates into the same value chain:

  • The training of health professionals.
  • Health research.
  • Innovation under an open approach so that the results arrive from the laboratory to the patient’s bed and also to the market, with economic returns that will revert to public health.
  • The evaluation of technologies to guarantee the application of the newest ones under maximum security criteria.

Areas and Research Groups

Galician health research groups develop numerous lines of work within the scientific areas established by each of the health research institutes. ACIS supports all of them, aligned with the Health Priorities Plan and the Sergas 2020 Strategy.

Each research institute organizes and manages its research areas autonomously. In this context, from a thematic point of view these can be structured in eight large blocks, which also include the areas of the Centers for Biomedical Research Network (CIBER) in which Galician groups collaborate:

  1. Infectious Diseases, Aging, Inflammation, Immunity, Regenerative Medicine, New Technologies, Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering
  2. Neurosciences and Psychiatric Diseases
  3. Oncology and Hematology
  4. Cardiovascular Diseases, Endocrinology, Metabolism and Nutrition and Rare Diseases
  5. Genetics, Systems Biology, Microbiology and Molecular Medicine
  6. Population Health, Health Care and Health Economics
  7. Platforms and Methodology
  8. Health Technologies, Biomedical Informatics and Telemedicine
