ANFACO. ENHANCE MICROALGAE

Project Description

The search for funding is directed towards the production of microalgae to obtain high value-added compounds is identified as a business sector with high growth potential in the coming decades, especially in the Atlantic region.

ANFACO is currently developing the project Enhance MicroAlgae that will contribute to the competitiveness of the microalgae-based industry in the Atlantic Area through the transfer of technological and economic knowledge to the commercial sector.

It is financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) under the European Territorial Cooperation objective of the European Union’s Cohesion Policy for the 2014-2020 programming period.

This project promotes a wide range of skills and interests, with strong records for science, production and exploitation of microalgae throughout the Atlantic Area.

Description of the Area of Activity / Technology

The main areas of activity of the project include

• Conduct a comprehensive analysis of skills, gaps and opportunities in the microalgae sector (industrial/academic).
• Develop case studies, supported by decision support tools (DST), to increase economic performance and competitiveness by transferring know-how from academic and technological centers to SMEs.
• Analyse the critical factors of the operation from the environmental point of view.
• Incorporate nanotechnology/new technologies into the microalgae sector.
• To promote the creation of spin-offs and self-employment.
